The Public Works Department is a diverse department that takes pride in its work and directly contributes every day to making Ocala a great place to live, play and prosper. The Public Works Department consists of six different divisions that are funded by four separate funds: General Fund, Sanitation, Gas Tax and Stormwater Utility. The department provides a variety of public health and safety services. These services include streets, sidewalks, traffic signs and signals, pavement markings, and stormwater maintenance. Health services include sanitation and mosquito control. The department provided diverse operations with a high incidence of direct customer and contractor involvement. The department is also responsible for essential emergency management services including storm preparedness and storm disaster recovery operations.
The Public Works Department operates on the principle of continuous improvement. We work hard to streamline our operations, by examining what we do, why we do it and how we do it. This continuous improvement allows us to achieve more with less. This is in line with the City’s strategic goals of fiscal sustainability and operational excellence. By operating as we do, we will help the City accomplish its primary goal and make Ocala a great place to live, play and prosper.
