How We Prune Trees

Ocala Electric Utility tree crews and contractors follow guidelines set forth by the International Society of Arboriculture and the Arbor Day Foundation for Tree Line USA certification.

Work practices have been formally adopted for line clearance tree pruning that are consistent with current ANSI A300 Part 1 and as explained in ISA Utility Pruning Best Management Practices. These practices avoid topping, tipping, removing branch collars and leaving long stubs.

By adhering to these guidelines when pruning, the health of the trees near the power lines is maintained, and healthy trees are less prone to failure and better able to provide the benefits that we most appreciate such as providing shade, producing fresh oxygen, removing dust particles from the air, and helping to keep our water clean by holding soil in place with their roots, and reducing runoff.
