Call to Artists: "Illusion and Reality" Student and Emerging Artist Competition
OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2019) – The City of Ocala and the Magnolia Art Xchange invite artists between the ages of 14 and 30 to submit entries for the “Illusion and Reality” Student and Emerging
Artist Competition, which will take place Thursday, April 11 through Thursday, July 11 at City Hall, 110 SE Watula Ave.
Artists will compete in three divisions according to their respective age group. All entries must have been completed within the last two years. Work will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and the juror will award winners in each division, as well as Best of Show. Awards will be given at the discretion of the judge juror and will be presented at a reception taking place Thursday, April 11 at City Hall. All decisions will be final.
The prizes for this competition include more than $2,000 in awards, including scholarships to the College of Central Florida (high school division), a feature in Ocala Magazine (Best in Show), a professional artwork scan (first place in each division), and annual memberships to the Appleton Museum of Art, Marion Cultural Alliance and the Ocala First Friday Art Walk.
Each artist may submit one piece for exhibition and jurying. All entries must be accompanied by the entry form, an artist statement, exhibit agreement form, photograph of artwork (in a .jpg file format with a resolution of at least 1900 pixels in the widest dimension). Photos can be emailed, or artists can mail printed photos, a CD or USB with digital images. Entries must be submitted no later than Monday, March 25 at 11:59 p.m. Artists whose entries are accepted will be notified no later than Friday, March 29, 2019.

- Monday, March 25 at 11:59 p.m. – Deadline for entry submissions
- Tuesday, April 9 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. – Artwork drop off at City Hall
- Thursday, April 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. – Show opens / opening reception
- Thursday, July 11 – Show closes
- Friday, July 12 between 3 and 5 p.m. – Artwork pickup
