Ocala City Council Names Sandra Wilson Next City Manager

Post Date:06/03/2020 11:32 AM

OCALA, Fla. (June 3, 2020) – The Ocala City Council voted on Tuesday to appoint Sandra Wilson as its next city manager, where she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the city, with the exception of the Ocala Police Department.

Wilson has served as the Interim City Manager, appointed by City Council in December 2019, after former city manager John Zobler retired.

City Council conducted interviews of each internal candidate and made recommendations during the regularly scheduled council meeting Tuesday, June 2.  Contract negotiations will begin immediately, and it is anticipated an agreement will be reached in short order.

Before her City Manager/Interim City Manager status, Wilson served as the Deputy City Manager, with oversight for the Electric Utility, Water Resources & Engineering, Human Resources & Risk Management and Fleet Management. Wilson served as the Assistant City Manager for Support Services for three years.  Prior to serving as Assistant City Manager for Support Services, she was the Human Resources and Risk Management Director.  Wilson has been employed by the City of Ocala for over 20 years.

Prior to working for the City of Ocala, Wilson held management level positions with the City of Lauderdale Lakes and the Town of Lady Lake, Florida.

Wilson has an Associate of Science Degree in Office Systems Technology, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, a Master of Arts in Human Resources Development, and Master of Business Administration.  Sandra holds the designation as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and as an ICMA Credentialed City Manager.
