City of Ocala Reports a Spill of Public Access Reuse Water
OCALA, Fla. (July 25, 2019) – Thursday, July 25th, the City of Ocala Water Resources Department experienced a spill of public access reuse water, which has been contained. This spill occurred at the City of Ocala Groundwater Recharge Wetland Park, 2201 NW 21st St., and involved approximately 1.0 million gallons of public access reuse water.
The water involved in the spill has been treated and presents no danger to the public or surrounding area. “This spill was caused when a sinkhole formed in a wetland cell, which is slated for repair,” said Rachel Slocumb, City of Ocala Water Resources Conservation Coordinator. “Sinkholes are an expected and anticipated occurrence in the process of constructing a wetland, due to the influx of water to the area.”
