The TPO is the agency responsible for transportation planning in the Ocala/Marion County area. Comprised of local elected officials from Marion County and the cities of Ocala, Belleview and Dunnellon, the TPO's planning responsibilities include highways and transit as well as bicycling and pedestrian facilities. The TPO works with the Florida Department of Transportation and local governments to fund and implement projects identified through various plans developed by the TPO. The TPO is also the policy board for SunTran, the local fixed-route transit system.
Year 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan - Public Involvement
The Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) recently wrapped up its public involvement program, Strings & Ribbons, for the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The LRTP is the planning document that will serve as the master planning tool for all transportation improvements within Marion County over the next 25 years.
Strings & Ribbons is a 'hands-on' public involvement technique used to solicit the opinions and recommendations of area citizens. Strings & Ribbons is designed so that we can hear your voice by allowing you to select and prioritize what improvements you think should be made to the Marion County transportation network throughout the next 25 years. Set up like a simplified version of Monopoly, participants "buy" transportation-related improvements such as roads, transit, pedestrian facilities, and simple landscaping to create a map of strings, ribbons, and stickers showing the improvements that they feel are the most important priorities. Participants also leave the meeting having a better understanding of the planning process and the challenges faced in providing transportation improvements.
If you have questions about the Strings & Ribbons program or the Year 2035 LRTP, please contact our office at (352)629-8297 or via email.
