The TPO is the agency responsible for transportation planning in the Ocala/Marion County area. Comprised of local elected officials from Marion County and the cities of Ocala, Belleview and Dunnellon, the TPO's planning responsibilities include highways and transit as well as bicycling and pedestrian facilities. The TPO works with the Florida Department of Transportation and local governments to fund and implement projects identified through various plans developed by the TPO. The TPO is also the policy board for SunTran, the local fixed-route transit system.
Year 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan
At a recent public hearing, the Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization approved the final Year 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The LRTP was developed based on statistical data and analysis coupled with results from the “Strings and Ribbons” public involvement program and recommendations by the TPO’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The LRTP is comprised of projected population and employment data, a network needs assessment, and a final cost feasible plan that covers the road network, transit system, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities. Major projects that were approved in the LRTP Cost Feasible Plan included improvements to the I-75 interchanges at SR 40, US 27, and CR 484; a new I-75 interchange at SW 95th Street; expansion of NW 35th Street from SW 27th Avenue to US 441; expansion of NW 44th Avenue from NW 60th Street to SR 326; construction of SE 92nd Loop (also known as the Belleview Beltway); and expansion of SR 35 from SE 92nd Place Road to SR 464. The TPO Board also added a new I-75 interchange at NW 44th Avenue and an eastern connection between the SW 95th Street interchange and CR 475A. For more information about the LRTP – including a full list of Plan projects as well as maps of capacity projects and bicycle, pedestrian, and transit needs – please check out the Executive Summary.
