Trees growing near power lines are one of the primary causes of momentary and sustained power outages. To ensure that we are providing safe and reliable service to our customers, Ocala Electric Utility implements a comprehensive vegetation management program pruning and removing hazardous trees around approximately 200 miles of lines each year.

Ocala Electric Utility tree crews and contractors are line clearance certified, and trained to use pruning techniques approved by the National Arbor day foundation and ANSI A300 to maintain a safe clearance zone between the trees and the power lines, while ensuring the health of the trees.

Proper pruning cuts work with the trees biology allowing them to heal naturally while directing their growth away from power lines. When routine pruning is performed, all resulting tree debris is removed. However if yours or your neighbor’s tree(s) cause an outage Ocala Electric Utility emergency crews will only clear them off of the lines to restore the power and wood and debris will be left on site. It will be the responsibility of the property owners to have the debris removed.

If you are currently without power or see a tree causing sparking or hazardous conditions call Ocala Electric Utility immediately at 352-351-6666 or in an emergency 911.
