Rules and Regulations

We know that rules are no fun! But these rules will ensure that everyone has fun in a safe environment. Please be responsible for the safety of yourself and your family.

  • Possession and/or discharge of firearms, weapons, fireworks, and/or explosives prohibited.
  • Alcoholic beverages prohibited.
  • Vehicles allowed only in designated parking lots and roadways.
  • Harassing of wildlife by people or domestic animals is prohibited.
  • No swimming permitted in City lakes and ponds.
  • All pets must be kept on a leash. No dogs are allowed on or near the walking trails.
  • If grills are provided they are for cooking only. No ground fires without park management approval. No dumping of coals in parks.
  • Overnight parking and camping prohibited without permit.
  • No bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, or scooters are permitted on trails.
  • Litterbugs will be fined.
  • Noise ordinances will be enforced.
  • Absolutely no digging is permitted on park property unless permission has been given in writing by the City Manager.
  • The City will enforce and prosecute to the fullest extent those who pilfer known arceological sites on City owned or controlled property. For details, click here.

Residents are encouraged to utilize the natural resources within the City to meet their leisure needs

 Fishing

Youth under 16 and senior citizens over 65 may fish at the following locations.

  • Tuscawilla Park
  • Ritterhoff Park (the Duck Pond)
  • Nature Park
  • Toms Park

Note: Staff recommends catch and release fishing only as lake/pond water conditions are not monitored for pollutants. 

Camping

  • Group camping is allowed at Heritage Nature Conservancy.

Note: All campers must obtain a camping permit by calling the Recreation and Parks Administration Office at (352) 368-5550. Camping at all locations is tent camping in designated areas only (restrooms are available).

Take that Party Outside

Picnic Pavilions (and even some parks) can be reserved for group gatherings. Whether it is a family birthday party, a family reunion, or even a corporate picnic, we can assist you with identifying the best facility to meet your needs. For more information on reserving a pavilion or facility, call 368-5550. (Reservation fees apply).
