Customer Beware...
OEU has learned of a scam that was orchestrated on customers of a Midwest utility company. Several businesses received notification through the mail, directing them to send their utility bill remittance to a new address. The letter looked authentic, with the utility logo and name displayed on it. Unsuspecting customers followed the instructions and sent their payments to the new address, which actually was a post office box obtained by a very resourceful individual. However, because of a suspicious customer and assistance from the US Postal Office, the gentleman was arrested, but not before collecting many payments.
Please know that Ocala Electric Utility would not send a separate notification letter regarding utility bill payments, or any other changes involving the utility invoice. Such a notice would appear on the utility invoice itself. If you are ever suspicious of any utility bill activity, please call the OEU Customer Service Office at 629-8411 to report your concern.
