Water Reclamation Facility #2
WRF#2 went into operation in 1971 to treat 3.5 MGD (millions of gallons per day) of wastewater. In 1992, capacity was expanded to 6.5 MGD, and can be expanded to 8.5 MGD when needed. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) establishes discharge limits for this treatment facility. If the effluent does not meet the specified limitations of the operating permit, the State of Florida has the authority to levy fines. To meet the requirements, our operators must be certified by FDEP, thoroughly familiar with the treatment processes and perform all of the necessary operational duties to maintain a high quality and environmentally safe effluent product. The wastewater produced within the WRF#2 service area is predominantly a combination of industrial and domestic wastes. A portion of wastewater consists of commercial wastes from motels, restaurants, car washes, and light industry. WRF#2 is designed to remove dissolved and suspended pollutants from the wastewater and inactivate disease-causing microorganisms in the final discharge.
