Automated Collection
Automated collection is a relatively new but thoroughly tested and proven method of residential refuse collection used in the sanitation industry. It is being increasingly used by municipalities as a more efficient and cost-effective option to manual collection. Each home is furnished with a special cart which you roll to the end of the driveway and place at curbside on your designated collection days. The refuse truck, equipped with a lifting device on the curb side, will lift, empty and return your cart to the same spot. The operator never leaves the truck cab, but controls the entire loading operation from his right-hand drive seat. After collection, a process which takes about 15 seconds, we request that you roll your now empty cart back to its storage place. Indoor storage in the garage is possible due to the containers ability to retain odors within the container.
The residential sanitation fleet currently consists of twelve (12) rear-loading sanitation trucks. Over the next several years, the City will be gradually replacing its rear-loading fleet with Automated Side-Loaders. We now have a fleet of 9 Side-Loaders.
The Public Works Department will be converting all sanitation routes to the Automated Collection System. More than 15,500 homes are now serviced through the automated collection process.
