Councilwoman Mary S. Rich
Mary Sue Rich has represented District 2 on the Ocala City Council since November of 1995. District 2 encompasses the city's far western section.
Mrs. Rich is a retired Correctional Probation Senior Supervisor for the Florida Department of Corrections. She has served on the Judicial Nominating Commission and the Weed and Seed Task Force. Mrs. Rich currently serves on the Governor's Westside Revitalization Council, Executive Board of the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council, Transportation Planning Organization, the Criminal Justice Advisory Council at the Central Florida Community College, and the Community Council Against Substance Abuse. She chairs the Racial Harmony Task Force, which sponsors 1 Ocala 1 America. This task force observes a week of diverse activities for all citizens of the city.
She is a member of Leadership Ocala Class 10, President of 1st Step Inc., a former member of the Florida Association of Community Corrections, and a Past President of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency.
Mrs. Rich also is a member of the Ebony Women Civic Club, former member of the Professional Women's Club, Ocala Republican Professional Women and Marion County Republican Executive Committee.
She has received the Distinguished Service Awards from the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency and Central Florida Community College.
She is a former member of the Board of Directors of United Way of Marion County, and currently is on the Board of Directors of the Marion County Children's Alliance, the Florida League of Cities Criminal Justice Policy Committee and the Federal Action Strike Team Committee.
Mrs. Rich was given the Humanitarian of the Year Award for 2005 from United Way.
She has been married to husband Franklin for 47 years. The couple has four grown children.
Mrs. Rich is an active member of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church.
