Commercial Service Information
There are two types of service for commercial customers.
Temporary Service:
Temporary service must be applied for under the same name as the building permit. Application may be made at the Citizen Service Center at 201 SE Third Street.
The following are needed to apply for temporary service:
- 911 Address of house being built or renovated (NOT Lot, Block number) This address is obtained from the 911 System Support Department.
- Building Permit which is obtained from City or County Building and Zoning Department.
- Driver's license or valid photo identification.
- Contact name and phone number.
- The standard fee for a single phase temporary service is one hundred dollars ($100) and is non-refundable after five (5) business days from date of application.

Payment may be made by cash, personal check, VISA, or Master Card. There is 2.95% convenience fee per transaction, or a minimum of $2.00, whichever is greater when using a credit card.
Once the application process is completed at the CSC, a service order is generated and sent to the Electric Engineering Division for design/engineering work. Applications made before the installation of temporary service facilities will remain in a pending status until the temporary service facilities are installed. Applicants are responsible for notifying OEU Engineering upon installation of temporary facilities.
Prior to connecting the electrical service, the following must be obtained:
- The temporary meter pole is supplied and installed by the customer. The Electric Engineering Division will specify the location.
- The City or County Building and Zoning Department will inspect and approve the temporary service.
- Any applicable construction charges will be paid to the Finance Department.
- Submit completed OEU approved easements (if applicable) to our Electric Engineering Division.
- Temporary facilities not installed within ninety (90) calendar days of application will result in cancellation of the application request and the forfeiture of the one hundred dollar ($100) service fee.
- Temporary service connections are limited to twelve (12) months from connection date.
- A minimum of three (3) business days is required to obtain a locate for underground facilities in the area temporary service is requested. Additional time may be required for design and construction.
Permanent Service:
Ocala Electric Utility’s Engineering Division must be contacted prior to application when new facilities will need to be installed (i.e. service to a new building) call 352-351-6620.
Permanent service applications, for commercial services, must be made at the Citizen Service Center, 201 SE 3rd Street.
The following are needed to apply for permanent service:
- Existing service address
- Driver's license
- Contact name and phone number
- Federal Tax Identification
- If applicable, Sales Tax Exemption certificate
- Business licenses are required in order to receive the necessary certificate of occupancy from the City or County Building Departments for commercial services.
- Fees: A $25 service fee. A deposit will be required consisting of 2.25 times the average monthly bill for all services provided. Methods used for the deposit are cash, bank letter of credit, certificate of deposit or a bond. Contact the CSC for actual amount of the required deposit.
Prior to connecting the electrical service, inspections must be obtained as follows:
- All commercial buildings must be inspected prior to energizing the permanent electrical service. This includes any change of occupancy, ownership, or change of name. A Certificate of Occupancy (C/O) is provided by the City or County Building and Zoning Department after the inspection has been approved and is required prior to connecting the electric service.
